It has been often said,
that it is not death, but dying, which is terrible..

Far away... when the whole world was busy running round the clock, there was a man all alone, watching outside ,with an unreadable expression on his face, pensive about which he knew he cant change. Unaswered questions filled his mind and were spinning around his head in never ending circles.
People around him also had similar troubles, but had their own ways of getting out of them. And ofcourse he knew that his problem however had no solution, it just has an END!
Probably he should be happy.. One day more and then he wont be told what to do, how to act, what is right , what is wrong...Neither by his conscience nor by the wordly rules. But somehow, he wasnt..!

And then the day came!! The day of judgement. He reflected upon his life, thought about the past mistakes. Thought about the heinous crime that had brought him to this end. He regretted committing it. But regret wasn’t going to snatch away the death sentence which stared him in the face. .

Sometimes we all get paused or stuck with a moment and want it to last forever. Such was a moment in his life yesterday when his mother came to meet him. Both of them dint talk anything. There was silence..which had already become his only companion by now.His mother however didnot speak anything and when it was her time to leave the place she stared at his eyes which were just blank, absolutely lost!...And then she cried... Uncontrollably...and left the place.. without a word..He had no option except to look at her crying since he cant help it nor can he change it.. Yes, mistakes are most of the times irrevocable..He did not want his mother to be there at the end, at his end..

He sat there. In the dark. Darkness did not trouble him. It had become more of a friend to him in the nine years that he had spent in prison. And now, there was light at the end of this dark tunnel. Light, in the form of death. What an irony!

And so he sat there. Lost in his memories, memories of a life gone waste. With just an hour
to go before he breathed his last, his mind was clear. No more thoughts came into his head. He prayed to the Lord to grant him a final wish- that of pardon, of forgiveness.
On the other hand, there was a battle going on at his house. His mother, now in her 60s, was fighting with his lawyer. The lawyer tried to explain to her that her son did not wish her to be there to watch his gruesome end.The lawyer however tried to dissuade her from going. But she was adamant. She was determined. After arguing for close to an hour, She said,
I was there when he was born, and I shall be there when he dies.”The lawyer had no other choice except to pray God to give her the strength to bear the greatest of the sorrows, that of watching her own child die.”

  2. hemaaa...U have written very nicely..ur writing style is impressive and thought provoking also...the article shows the varied things like conscience and guilt.i really wish this article of yours makes the reader think twice about what is right and what is wrong before they decide, act, commit a mistake and hurt others...
As u said Silence speaks more than what words....It shows that if a person is silent it doesnt mean he has nothing to say..Infact it tells that there is lot to say...
It also somewer tells us that a person can only understand and look at the situation in the right view when he/she experiences it personally...In here, reader can also understand that conscience comes in to picture only when the person is facing trouble and is passing through worst phase of his life...It could not stop a person from commiting the mistake or taking a wrong decision earlier. Also denial mode is something that ppl generally adopt and blame others in situations to avoid the guilt. Also wen guilt comes in to picture...it implies tana gurinche kakunda victim gurinchi kuda alochistunnadu..most cases this is not shown... guilt leads him to think abt the mistake he committed and the ppl he might have hurt in the process....and how a saying a mere sorry out of regret u cant change anything in the situation and the worst damage has already been made... and how some mistakes are irrevocable.
i really wish u keep writing good articles and make ppl think abt emotions, relations in between all this materialistic things....
    Keep writing..

  4. Quite an interesting articulation of the thought process of a person facing his last commandment....when guilt floods your world, when the truth dawns upon, when you wake up to the day where you wont wake up again....
Would have loved if the reason of his lament was elucidated a bit more but all in all a good effort :) I see a good writer spawning in you.....:)

  5. you made it finally..kudos!! more importantly, because u chose a situation dat ppl generally ignore or take for granted cos the prisoner is only paying for his mistakes in world's view..which makes it much more challenging to handle..and i give it to u,u did great at it!!keep going! :)

  6. A very good one Hema!

Power of silence has been known since time immemorial.. It has proved itself once again in your writing!

"...when the whole world was busy running round the clock, there was a man all alone, watching outside ,with an unreadable expression on his face, pensive about which he knew he cant change..." - he was watching outside but we are getting to know about his inside i.e. his thought process. He introspects and the pang of guilt and regret are silently quarrelling within him. A beautiful irony which I liked! :)

    Emotionally stirring one.. Keep going!
